red direct wish list

Image
Been pootling about on line to find an appropriate birthday present for a girlfriend and rediscovered Red Direct today, then promptly fell in love with about a hundred things. Here are my edited highlights. Bigger pics first - Rawxclusive  'I rule' print, which could very well be the present as my friend has a very queenly name. Gorgeous, gorgeous tan Cheet Nell clutch , really think this would be a perfect bag to cover both spring and summer, plus it has a Chanel-esque chain strap for hands free wearing. Smaller pics - Love the stylised peacocks on the  black Evi cosmetic pouch . Pretty 22ct gold 'me 4 you' earrings by Alex Monroe. Mimi ' Fonzy' purse - loving the anchor and vibrant yellow leather. Fun union jack noticeboard by Green & Co. Gillian Kyle foil teacake shopper - I love tea cakes. Bright fun Louise Buchan purses. Silver Service Hummingbird necklace , and finally really nice looking metallic sneakers by Ash Virgo .

This isn't Lisbon my friends. I've got to say, it's pretty peculiar to wake up to the news that your flight has been cancelled due to a volcanic eruption  but such is life, holidays will have just have to wait till the skies clear up. *Sigh*

image found via the fabulous neotraditionalist Hurrah hooray! I'm off on holiday! I tend to get very upset if I don't have a flight confirmation in my name at any given time, and I'm the sort of person who needs to plan a new trip within a week or two of arriving home from the previous one. It's been an absolute age since I've been able to get out of the country due to having had a pretty crummy past 6 months. So I'm taking a very well earned little break to Lisbon for the next few days where I intend to wonder the streets and get thoroughly lost, seek out curious shops, gorge myself on seafood and custard tarts and bar hop till the early hours. Apparently Lisbon is a city perched on seven hills, so I suspect despite all the aforementioned good living I intend to do, with any luck I'll come back to London with with buns of steel too!

Eating London: Polpo Soho/Fernandez & Wells

Image
I have thing for tiny little bars and restaurants. Some of the best places I've visited on my travels and my favourite regular haunts in London are more or less standing room only. I don't know why but I love being jammed into cosy bustling rooms with a handful of people enjoying yummy eats and drinks and swapping banter with staff and patrons alike. I had a lovely day last week for my birthday discovering a new favourite little place and revisiting an old gem. After a quick turn around the shops a friend and I dropped in to Polpo on Beak Street for a bite of lunch, I'd heard some vague rumblings that it did good stuff, and as we happened to stumble upon it we decided to pop in and I'm soo pleased we did. Polpo specialises in small northern Italian dishes, the kind of place where you can order a bunch of plates between friends to happily munch away over a couple of glasses of wine and a gossip. We managed to work our way through small plates of white beans wit
