musical interlude

Phew I'm knackered! I've been running around to gigs, birthday meals and drinks non stop for the past three days which is very unusual for me, my stamina levels no longer stretch to going out for than a couple of times a week now days - you'll find me curled up under blankets hibernating the rest of the time. No time or energy for posting pretty things today, so I'll settle for the new single by Hot Chip, who I had lots of fun bopping along to at the Brixton Academy on Friday. Followed by a video (my beloved!) Thom Yorke playing one of his new songs 'Give up the Ghost' which debuted at the gig in Cambridge earlier in the week. It was simply spell binding, I'm so glad I made the effort to travel up to see him, and despite the fact that my friend and I missed our last train home and then had an adventurous 3 hours journey home, it was absolutely worth it.   Hot Chip - One Life Stand (MySpace Exclusive) Hot Chip

I love Thom Yorke

Image
You might not guess if you saw me in the street, but I'm a card carrying Radiohead geek. I've been listening to them for half of my life and no other band I can think of has continued to captivate my attention so consistently. I'm *beyond* excited to be hopping on the train up to Cambridge tonight for the rare treat of seeing Thom Yorke playing solo at the old Corn Exchange. I might just explode with excitement. (He's got a weirdly sexy pixie thing going on there no? No? Maybe its just me...sigh.)

soft pink+white+grey rooms

Loving the glamorous detailing, soft tones and bright, fresh feel of these rooms. I'm planning to redecorate my bedroom soon (in fact the whole of my flat, but more on that later), this is just the feel I'm hoping to achieve.

etsy love: Flapper Doodles

I love illustrator Kate Gabrielle's flapper girls Eloise, Ramona and Emma who like to dance, dress up like hollywood icons, hula hoop and even eat cotton candy - all available at her etsy shop

eiffel tower inspiration

Image
I developed a wee obsession with the Eiffel tower lamp featured in the photo I posted recently when I talked about organising a proper work space at home. As a result I have trawled high and low for a similar lamp but sadly, have come up empty handed. However did find a few other Eiffel tower themed goodies when I was nosing around on etsy. Lovely grey printed scarf by pretty racoon , vintage postcard plates petite poulailler , paris trio necklace by chinacherie . Paris and Interior images above via cherry blossom girl , Miss Vu , and possibly skona hem .

at the movies

Oops I forgot to post these great stills as a follow up to seeing A Single Man the other day. I went in to the theatre with some trepidation as although I was pretty sure the film was going to be visually gorgeous, the subject matter of a man deep in grief at the loss of his partner isn't exactly light relief. The movie is beautifully put together and meticulously styled as you would expect from Tom Ford first outing as a producer/director. To be honest I did wonder faintly if style might overide substance, but I got pulled straight in to the story. Yes it looks beautiful and is full of beautiful people, but the story telling is dreamy, and Firth's acting as outwardly stiff university lecturer George is impeccable. I didn't think it was contrived or over styled at all. Being one of the seemingly few women who don't go a bit wobbly over Colin Firth normally (the lake scene anyone?), I will admit he does look excedingly handsome in his perfectly cut suits and heav

looklet: more ways for me to waste my time

Yes indeed I do have a list of errands and chores as long as my arm today but I couldn't help but share my new love of playing dress up with Looklet and it's addictive!

a single man

Contrary to my usual habit of managing to somehow miss every single film I want to see at the cinema, I actually planned ahead for once so off to the Barbican to see this tonight, hurray!

I didn't realise there was such a thing as a sexy sugar bowl till I discovered this here.  They also have unusual and beautiful matching tea cups and cake stands.

Eating London: Le chandelier cafe

Image
Stumbled upon this gorgeous interior of a cafe/tea house called le chandelier  in East Dulwich, south east London. It's not a neighbourhood I frequent very much, despite living in SE London myself, but I think the interiors alone would be worth a detour soon to check it out.

hot desking

After many years of balancing my laptop on my lap/coffee table/bed/sofa, I've finally resolved to find room in my poky little flat for a small office area. As a result I spent almost the whole yesterday wrestling with pieces of flat pack, and puzzling over why I might still have a handful of screws and unidentifiable plastic thingys left over seeing as the desk and drawers are built. This no doubt serves me right for buying unbelievably cheap furniture. But due to both financial and space constraints I had little other choice as I simply couldn't find anything which fitted the bill without costing a bomb. Now I may have a cheap desk but am very cheered by the fact that I scored an absolute bargain on ebay and bought a gorgeous Kartell Louis Ghost chair at about 40% off its usual retail price. I'm currently surrounded in chaos made by items which have been displaced by my new desk, and I still haven't worked out where the hell to put the printer, but I

Spring City Look

Image
springcityoffice by ephemerette Ahh spring, could you hurry up? Having enjoyed the scantest bit of glorious sun in between mean grey skies and rain over the past few days, I've been thinking about how nice it'll be when it finally gets to a stage where I can go to work without being swaddled in a hundred layers. My current working wardrobe consists of various dresses worn over a fine long length cashmere jumpers, at least two pairs of tights, cardigans, boots, scarf's  gloves the list goes on and on. I've been having a little play with Polyvore to design a little set of how I intend to be dressing once that temperature dial stars rising. Although I do work in an office environment, I'm lucky that the organisation I work for is relaxed when it comes to formal dress codes, I'd find it unbearable to get suited, booted and buttoned up every day like friends I have in other industries. I could easily turn up in jeans and converse without anyone batting an

Martin Margiela Hotel Suite

Image
via http://www.sources-caudalie.com/ It seems de rigueur for fashion designers to try a hand at hotel design now, often with spectacular results. The grande suite at Le Sources de Caudalie in Bordeaux has a really interesting juxtoposition of styles and architecture. Minimal hard, sharp furniture, and intricate panelling set within in what looks like an industrial looking room from the inside but is in fact a cabin built on stilts over a lake. I've seen the use of pilows stacked up on the wall for a headboard before somewhere, here it reminds me slightly of a rather glamorous asylum (in the nicest possible way!).
